This article explains how to sync planned structured workouts from the Final Surge web beta platform down to your Garmin Connect calendar so that they can be executed on your Garmin device. If you have not yet connected your Garmin Connect account with Final Surge, you must first do that in order to enable this feature.
Enabling Sync Permissions
If you have already connected your Garmin Connect account to Final Surge but have not yet enabled the new Training permission inside of Garmin Connect, the following steps will show you how to enable this permission in your Garmin Connect account so that Final Surge can access your Garmin Connect calendar and send planned structured workouts to it.
Step 1 - Log into Garmin Connect on the web.
Click here to log into your Garmin Connect account: https://connect.garmin.com/signin
Step 2 - Go to Account Settings
Click on your Profile image in the top right corner and select Account Settings
Step 3 - Go to Account Information
Under Settings, click on the Account Information link to be taken here: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/settings/accountInformation
Step 4 - Grant "Training" Permission
Scroll down the page and under the Applications heading, find Final Surge. Click the toggle button next to the "Training" option to give Final Surge permission to send planned structured workouts down to your Garmin Connect calendar.
Sending Planned Structured Workouts from Final Surge to your Garmin Connect calendar
Once you have given Garmin Connect permission to receive planned structured workouts from Final Surge, you are now ready to send these workouts down to your Garmin Connect calendar.
Log into the Final Surge Beta web platform by clicking here: https://beta.finalsurge.com/login
Or, if you are logged into the current Final Surge web platform, click the "Beta" icon at the top of the page into the row of icons to switch to the Beta platform:
If you do not yet have structured workouts created for the planned workouts on your calendar, view our help article on creating structured workouts.
If you have structured workouts on your calendar for today or on the next three days, you can send these four days of workouts to your Garmin Connect calendar using our new Structured Workout Sync feature. To access this feature, click on your name (or your athlete's name) at the top of the calendar:
This will open up the Structured Workout Settings modal window. If your Garmin Connect account is synced correctly, you will see the Garmin Connect option at the top of this window.
Auto Syncing Four Days of Workouts
There are two ways to get your structured workouts to your Garmin Connect calendar. The first method is by setting the "Auto Sync" to ON. To do this, select "Auto Sync (ON)" from the drop down menu:
Turning this feature on will automatically sync down and add/update your next four days (today and the next 3 days) of planned structured workouts to your Garmin Connect calendar. This happens once a day so that you will always see two days of workouts in your Garmin Connect account (the auto sync happens around midnight in your time zone). If you have a full training plan on your calendar that contains structured workouts, once you set this feature to ON, all workouts over the course of time will automatically show up on your Garmin Connect calendar as well.
Manually Pushing Four Days of Workouts
The second option for sending down workouts to your Garmin Connect calendar is the "Manual Workout Push" button. This will push down your next four days of planned structured workouts (today and the next 3 days) immediately. This feature is helpful if the day's auto sync has already happened, but then you have made a last minute change to your current day's workout, and you need it to update the workout that has already synced to your Garmin Connect calendar. Or, if you add a new workout at the last minute that you want to do, use the "Manual Workout Push" button to send down that new workout immediately to Garmin Connect:
Once you click this button, you will see a spinner icon which denotes the platform processing your workouts and sending them down to Garmin Connect:
When the spinner icon disappears, your workouts have successfully been pushed to Garmin Connect. This will only push today's workouts plus the next 3 days of workouts to Garmin Connect (four days total).
Viewing your Planned Structured Workouts in the Garmin Connect App and Syncing them to your Garmin Device
Once you have pushed structured workouts to your Garmin Connect calendar, you can now view them in the Garmin Connect app and sync them to your Garmin device (watch or cycling computer). Open up the Garmin Connect app on your mobile phone and ensure your Garmin device is connected via Bluetooth. Garmin Connect will periodically sync your workouts to your Garmin Device so this step may not be necessary. However, to manually sync workouts from Garmin Connect to your watch or cycling computer, click the "sync" icon at the top right of the Garmin Connect app:
That will then push the workouts to your Garmin Device so that you can execute them on the device whenever you choose to do your workout.
If you would like to view your Garmin Connect calendar and view the planned workouts you synced from Final Surge, tap the calendar icon at the bottom of the Garmin Connect app:
Then, tap on the day that you want to view. Once you open up the day, you can then select a planned workout on that day:
Tapping on that planned workout will show you that the structured workout was synced from Final Surge:
Transfer the workout to your watch or cycling computer to view the steps and see the full details of the workout.
